The Qualcomm-powered Apple iPhone 7 from the Cupertino tech giant is going to have limited LTE speed performance to match the slower Intel variants, making things fair overall.

The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus were launched in August along with the Apple Watch series 2. Few of the units came with the Qualcomm modem, and others had Intel chips. Reports suggest that the Qualcomm modems performed better compared to the latter.

The Verizon and the Sprint variants of the iPhones 7 come with the faster Qualcomm modems. There is a slight difference in the performance indeed. Verizon and Sprint units use the Qualcomm X12 modem, while AT&T and T-Mobile use the Intel XMM 3360 modem.

The Qualcomm modem of the iPhone 7 maxes out at speeds of up to 600 megabits per second (Verizon and Sprint), while the Intel modem's maximum speed is around 450 megabits per second (AT&T and T-Mobile). It is faster on Verizon or Sprint, making it unfair to the other competing carriers. It is highly possible also that the modems operate on different potential like the power consumption.

The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels and a pixel density of 326 ppi. Under the hood, it is powered by a quad-core Apple A10 Fusion chipset. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in memory that cannot be extended.

The iPhone 7 runs on iOS 10 out of the box and features a 12-megapixel camera at the back. It also carries a 7-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. It is packed with a 1960 mAh non-removable battery and measures 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm in dimension with the weight of 138 grams.

If the test reports are correct, then Apple has to limit the iPhone 7 since it would be awkward if the models on Verizon were faster than the ones on AT&T (and T-Mobile).
