After AMD Ryzen Comes Zen 2-Based CPU Pinnacle Ridge; 60-65% IPC Increase Expected

Days after the full revelation of AMD Ryzen specs and price, news of another expansion hit online as Zen 2-based processors are expected to hit the market in Q4 of 2017.

Following the successful launch of the Zen-based Summit Ridge processor, AMD will soon be introducing a follow-up dubbed as Pinnacle Ridge, according to PC Games Hardware. Although just a few details are known about the Summit Ridge successor, the Pinnacle Ridge is expected to exhibit a high increase in performance per clock.

The architecture of the upcoming CPU will be based on Zen 2. This suggests that there will be more treats for enthusiasts and enterprise users compared to the first generation Zen core. With a projected IPC increase, it is to be expected that Pinnacle Ridge users will experience a 60-65 percent total IPC increment.

AMD's latest move has been highlighted by its President and CEO Dr. Lisa Su. Zen 2-based or even Zen 3-based processors had already been mapped out by the company, even before the release of their AMD Ryzen.

"In new product development, you always learn a lot, and we have our list of things that we are adding to zen2 and zen3 to get even more performance going forward." WccfTech quoted Dr. Su saying.

Based on the previous statement of AMD's Dr. Su, a large team is working on the Ryzen or Summit Ridge successor. AMD has assured customers that they would be pumping out more improvement to the second batch of high-performance cores.

This follow-up would only mean that the Pinnacle Ridge will likely improve on any issues users may have had with its predecessor.

As of the current writing, if there are no delays, the Pinnacle Ridge should arrive by the fourth quarter of 2017. Thus, suggesting it should be available for purchase by early 2018.
