Sony is heading to a new era of consoles after its Japan stronghold announces its cease to deliver the PS3 console soon. Currently, the 500GB version of the console is still in production in Japan. But the latest announcement revealed, it may finally end this March. This specific model of console from Sony is the standard edition of the PS3.

After 11 years of existence, Sony Japan thinks that the PS3 500GB console has done its part and announced that "shipments are scheduled to end soon." Despite the PS3's successful tenure, it's overall sales is still no match to the PS2's 150 million unit sales in its lifetime. Nevertheless, the PlayStation 3 era also featured some of the best titles in Sony's console existence.

Meanwhile, some of PlayStation 3's best titles include the "Red Dead Redemption," which is now part of the Microsoft Xbox One backwards compatibility, "Grand Theft Auto V," "The Last of Us," "God of War II," "Batman: Arkham City" and many more.

Meanwhile, Sony's current gen console; the PlayStation 4 has a record sales of 55 million units worldwide. The number surpasses its rival Xbox One and is seen to sell more as exclusive games become a trend on the console wars.

The PS4 console is currently accompanied by the PS4 Pro, which has limited games on its list. While the rest of the PS4 games are scheduled to be integrated to the PS4 Pro, the current gen console may stay a while for few more years.

Games and updates on the PS3 console will remain available and who knows, this could be the start of a backwards compatibility alike wherein PS3 games are developed to be compatible with the PS4 console? A detailed announcement on PS3's fate may soon arrive so make sure to watch out on Sony's next game plan.
