A Wi-Fi network may require more than just a hardware improvement to make it fast and secure. You may also have to take other steps, including name changing.

If you have neighbors who try to break the passcode or were able to connect to your network previously, you might want to change your Wi-Fi network name to scare intruders away, according to Life Hacker.

By using unique network names like "c:\virus.exe," you may be able to discourage potential trespassers. Aside from that, regular name changing may also kick off network hitchhikers. This would be more effective if it is combined with encryption.

Another method to try to secure network connection is to double up on the firewall, according to PC Mag. Most routers have a firewall built-in, which you should activate to double your protection from outside attacks. Check either SPI (stateful packet inspection) or NAT (network address translation), and turn it on for added layer of protection.

Guest networks are the most convenient way that your neighbor or any unauthorized person may take advantage of your Wi-Fi connection. That is why experts advise people to turn off guest networks.

If you are serious about your wireless security, you might want to try disabling automatic network broadcast. This would mean not broadcasting your network name. Simple toggle the visibility status of your device in the Wireless Setting.

However, things may vary from one device to another. That is why it would be best to contact your Internet Service Provider or an expert for assistance, especially if you are confused about something.

If there are updates available, try to take advantage of it. Updates are made to remedy reported glitches or concerns.
