The search for HIV/AIDS cure continues this 2017. Another breakthrough has been reported that increases the chance of HIV from replicating permanently with the help of a revolutionary gene editing tool.

The battle against HIV/AIDS intensifies as scientists continue to search for methods of curing, if not preventing the disease from proliferating. A Recent study revealed that HIV DNA could be extracted from the genomes of living animals to prevent further infection.

Although it may not be the permanent cure that experts have been searching for decades, the said discovery is still of great importance in stopping the disease. With the help of a gene-editing strategy that serves a strong foundation for the pursuit of a permanent cure for HIV infection.

The said gene editing tool is known as CRISPR/Cas9. It operates by guiding proteins to target specific DNA sequences in the cell. It would then edit the specific sections in by means of protein Cas9 to do the cutting and editing, according to The Christian Post.

The outcome of the study is indeed promising. Its impact towards the prevention of the disease was very evident with their mouse subjects.

"Our new study is more comprehensive. We confirmed the data from our previous work and had improved the efficiency of our gene editing strategy. We also show that the strategy is effective in two additional mouse models, one representing acute infection in mouse cells and the other representing chronic, or latent, infection in human cells, Science Daily quoted head researcher Dr. Wenhui Hu as saying.

As of the current writing, global statistical data revealed that there were approximately 36.7 million individuals living with HIV/AIDS globally. An estimated 2.1 million individuals worldwide became newly infected with the said disease based on the recent 2015 data sheet.

This latest update concerning HIV/ AIDS cure and prevention will affect how experts deal with the disease. The study upon improvement will inevitably impact the global community and its fight against the said disease.
