"GTA 6" has been long rumored to be in the developer's pipeline for quite a long time now due to the massive success of current GTA title, "GTA 5". However, recent developments at Rockstar Games would quite explain why "Grand Theft Auto 6" will be further delayed to a possible 2020 release date.

The latest news on the wildly popular franchise from Rockstar Games revealed an increase of five million copies of "GTA 5"' sold worldwide, making it one of the best-selling games in the video games industry. Take-Two reported this growth during its official Q4 earnings meeting.

What has largely contributed to more sales of the game is that the developer has continued to pour in more support, four years after its initial release in 2013. The most recent DLC packs accounted Cunning Stunts DLC and the Tiny Racers update, Game Rant reported.

But on the other side of things, it seemingly suggests that this is Rockstar's way to keep the players hooked still to "GTA 5", especially with the success of its online mode that racked up more profits for Take-Two. It apparently delays any plan of a brand new "Grand Theft Auto" entry to the series to come into picture.

However, a lot of fans are wanting to at least hear news about the coming of "Grand Theft Auto 6" in the near future. It was a long time ago that Rockstar and Take-Two talked about "GTA 6" and their focus is now afforded to another highly anticipated title, "Red Dead Redemption 2".

Unfortunately, the released date of "Red Dead Redemption 2" is pushed back to Spring 2018. Now, International Business Times supposed that this means that any development plans for "GTA 6" is also delayed.

This assumption somewhat makes sense amid expectations of the whole gaming community that the sixth title will be launched in 2018, taking into account Rockstar's five-year gap release pattern. But the developers will not possibly lose focus yet on RDR2 until it finally launches next year, so, this scenario rules out the 2018 release for "GTA 6".

It looks like anyone's best guess on release window of "Grand Theft Auto 6" is in 2020. The estimated time frame could be an ample time for Rockstar Games to make another stellar hit, with integration of VR mode and other big new features.
