There is news widely spreading that a secret team of Apple is developing a virtual reality headset of their own.

The news was published on Madd Apple with further information about Apple competing with Microsoft and Facebook in the virtual reality market. There is also news about Apple buying the Flyby Media, an augmented reality startup which had previously worked with Google, about two years ago, and was the first consumer facing application to have used Google's "Project Tango."

It is reported that Apple's secret team comprises hundreds of individuals who are skilled and come from acquisitions that are well planned out. The team includes specialists from selected companies like Microsoft and Lytro, a camera startup. The news comes from Tech Times about buying Flyby Media, soon after hiring Doug Bowman, who is a virtual reality expert and is believed to have spearheaded the progress of the Cupertino brand.

There are further reports about the declining sales of Apple smartphone, which has probably prompted the tech company to revitalize their efforts in broadening its development scope beyond the iPad and iPhone. Further reports say that Apple is taking interest in the VR technology, especially after the success of the Oculus Rift, which was bought by Facebook in 2014 for $2 billion.

Financial Times reported that Apple is eager to join others like Google, Microsoft, Samsung and Facebook in exploring the field in developing the virtual reality platform, which could be the next platform after mobile.

In an interview with the media, CEO of Apple Tim Cook is said to have commented about the technology having a broad appeal and being really cool with some interesting applications. Apple is said to have experimented with the virtual reality technology in the past, creating prototypes and filing patents, but abandoning the project due to the technology being deemed immature.
