Microsoft is planning to release Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the upcoming smartphones like Xiaomi Mi 5 and OnePlus 3. This feature shall allow users to swap their Android platform with Windows without the need to buy a new device.

Windows Central notes that new ROM shall be made available for OnePlus 2, OnePlus 3 and Xiaomi Mi 5.

Techno Buffalo, on the other hand, reported that Microsoft had released a Windows 10 Mobile ROM for Xiaomi Mi 4 last year. In aftermath of the success of this experiment, Microsoft has planned to open up access to Windows 10 for more Android users.

News of Windows 10 Mobile ROM release has been reported by Nokia Power User, based on response by Microsoft to comments on Weibo, China's micro blogging site.

Microsoft has recently released a Windows 10 Mobile Preview build of 14217 for Windows users in February. At present, only smart phones that come with Windows 10 mobile are Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 550 and Lumia 650. International Business Times reports that Microsoft is attempting to both improve Windows 10 software and expand its reach to non-Windows users.

It was also reported that Xiaomi had released Mi Pad 2 tablet in two separate editions - one with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and another with Windows 10 OS. A similar pattern is being expected for Xiaomi Mi 5, which was announced in February and is speculated to be released this March.

It is also predicted that there will be two modes of release for Xiaomi Mi 5. One being that it may be released in two versions, one featuring Android 6.0 and other with Windows 10 OS. Second being that Xiaomi Mi 5 may not be launched in Windows 10 version but with free download of Windows 10 Mobile ROM, users would be able to switch to Windows' operating system.
