Google Team Working On Self-Driving Car Now Has 170 Employee

Tech giant Google is upgrading the team that works on its self-driving car project. Based on recently compiled data from several sources, the Google autonomous-car project has 170 employees and 40 of those have extensive experience in the auto industry.

In its effort to further expand the team, Google is currently looking to add 40 new positions into the team. Reports claim that the latest batch will be composed of experts from the manufacturing industry as well as politics.

According to Fortune, Google is also looking for experts who have experience in systems engineering and exterior design.

In one of the advertised position, Google is looking for a political analysts that will help the company to "handle our various product agendas with policy makers inside and outside government." Experts claims that the tech giant is upgrading and widening the scope of its team since it had previously announced that it will begin selling mass-market self-driving cars by 2020.

In the past six months, Google had been busy testing prototypes of its self-driving cars. More recently, the company received permission from a handful of local governments that allows it to test its autonomous cars in public roadways.

Additionally, Google had very public about its tie-ups with state governments in developing new laws that will favor the company's technologies. Collectively, Google's self-driving cars have driven more than 1.3 million miles in public roadways in Washington, Texas and California.

Based on the current status of self-driving cars, it is safe to say that it has a great potential to be the biggest trend of the future. Tech companies like Tesla, Google and Apple have already launched their own development team in order to get ahead of the competition.

While most analysts said that future of self-driving cars rely mostly on tech companies, traditional car manufacturers are also working to get their own piece of the action. Car companies like Ford and General Motors have already launched their own self-driving car project.

According to ZDNet, market analysts predict that the self-driving car industry will create up to $87 billion worth of opportunities for both traditional automakers and tech developers who are working on the self-driving car industry.
