Google's self-driving car has been involved in another accident.

A Google autonomous vehicle has been involved in an accident in Mountain View, California. However, the crash was not Google car's fault as the other driver had run a red light and banged into the car. While there were no injuries, the Google car suffered major damages.

The accident highlights one of the biggest challenges faced by autonomous vehicles. While self-driving cars follow the rules, they still have to contend with human drivers on the road, who in many cases flout the rules and end up causing accidents. In a statement released by Google, the company highlighted that violating red lights is one of the biggest causes of road accidents in the US.

According to SlashGear, this accident seems to be the worst one so far for a Google car. Previous accidents involved rear-ending. However, this accident left severe damages to the side of the car. Its right front door was also completely smashed.

While this accident was caused by human error, Google does not have a completely clean record when it comes to autonomous vehicles. Earlier this year, a Google self-driving car hit the side of a bus in a low-speed accident.

Autonomous vehicles are becoming more acceptable. Recently, the US Department of Transportation announced major policy announcements regarding autonomous vehicles. According to Tech Crunch, the guidelines stressed that technology companies should prioritize safety. The guidelines also ask for data sharing with government and other authorities.

Google publishes a monthly report about its autonomous vehicles. More details about the accident are likely to emerge in a report due later this month.
