Samsung produced its very own Exynos 9 series processor, which can perform equally to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC. The chip was unveiled in Seoul, South Korea, and it is expected to be used for the Asian launch of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. The Exynos 9 Series is built on 10nm FinFET process, similar to the Snapdragon as well.

The new Exynos 8895 SoC will provide 27 percent better performance with 40 percent less power consumption that its predecessor. It also comes with four custom designed second-generation CPU cores with four Cortex-A53 cores. It packs with Mali-G71 GPU to provide advanced level of 3D graphic performance with minimized latency for 4K UHD VR gaming.

According to Ben Hur, VP of System LSI marketing, "the Exynos 8895 will drive the innovation of the next generation smartphones, VR headsets, and automotive infotainment system." The new chip also has its own Vision Processing Unit (VPU) to recognize and analyse movements that improve video tracking, image processing and machine vision technology.

The processor also support video recording and playback for 4K UHD at 120fps thanks to the advanced multi-format codec onboard. The Exynos 8895 also gives promise of realistic and immersive video experience even at the 4K level of resolution. Aside from that, it packs a GigaBit modem that can provide download speeds of up to 1Gbps and uploads of 150 Mbps.

With the upgraded features of Exynos 8895, camera sensors of up to 28MP for both front and rear can be used flawlessly. A dual lens camera packed with up to 28MP + 16MP setup is not a problem as well. The dual Image Signal Processor works with high quality and low power separately. Iris and fingerprint recognition is also supported by the new chip.

Currently under mass production, the Exynos 8895 can be expected on the upcoming flagship devices to be released on mid-April of this year - except for those from the Western side of the world which already has Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC onboard.
