After a series of shutdowns for several torrent sites, namely Kickass and Pirate Bay, ExtraTorrent is next to be reported as having been gone offline. Although this closing down is expected, there is little information about why it was not able to maintain its position.

ExtraTorrent has gone a long way since 2006, and earned the support of millions, which eventually made the site as the second largest torrent site. Unlike other torrent sites, the reason for ExtraTorrent's closing down is a mystery, however, being the second, it is always a target for many law enforcement and entertainment industry groups.

While others are convinced that ExtraTorrent has been reprimanded by the law, it is more convincing to believe that the owners have decided not to continue for the reason that they are tired. In statement posted on their website, it officially stated,

"ExtraTorrent has shut down permanently, ExtraTorrent with all mirrors goes offline.. We permanently erase all data. Stay away from fake ExtraTorrent websites and clones. Thx to all ET supporters and torrent community. ET was a place to be..."

ExtraTorrent's main release group, ETRG, which is the group code seen as the file name of many torrents, has also ceased to function.  On the other hand, ExtraTorrent's Ettv and Ethd are only relying on donations in order to operate.

In another news, Telegiz has reported that other torrent sites are in operation, still providing services to their subscribers. But the real question is, how long can these torrent sites maintain their momentum? The recent issue involving the hacking of  Disney's "Pirates of Carribbean 5" has created a lot of tension in the torrent world. Will this finally bring down all the torrent sites? Stay tuned.
