Barnes & Noble has announced that it would release a new Nook tablet before the end of the month. Dubbed as the Nook Tablet 7, the device will sport a 7-inch display and will most probably be targeting the same niche of users as the Amazon Fire HD 6.
Barnes & Noble said that the Nook Tablet 7 would hit the market on Nov. 25, making it an ideal choice for the Black Friday shopping and the upcoming holiday season as well.
The new Nook Tablet 7 is expected to cost $49.99, this makes the tablet $50 less than the usual retail cost of the Amazon Fire HD 6, according to Android Headlines. On the other hand, Amazon is known to put the Fire HD brand on sale at a discounted price. With Black Friday and the holidays coming, Amazon is expected to give a significant discount to drive up sales.
Before its official confirmation, details about the Nook Tablet 7 were leaked when an FCC listing surfaced in October. This lead to speculations that the device could hit the market within weeks.
Barnes & Noble said that the Nook Tablet 7 would be the most affordable Nook device to date. However, at this price tag, the device is expected to come with some pretty basic set of hardware.
The Nook Tablet 7 comes with an 8GB storage space to keep all apps, ebooks, and other files. Since 8GB is such a small room for storage, the device supports microSD cards for storage expansion of up to 128GB.
The Nook Tablet 7 runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The 7-inch display has a 1024 x 600 resolution. For a device of its price point, the Nook Tablet 7 comes with a pretty basic set of cameras. It has a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, according to Android Police. It supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Nook Tablet 7 is not a powerhouse device. It is intended for reading digital books and basic mobile apps.
