Details about Qualcomm's highly-anticipated next-generation mobile chipsets leaked recently. The tech community has been on the hunt for details of the Snapdragon 835 chipset ever since Samsung confirmed that this chipset will power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy 8 flagship devices. Not much was known until earlier this week when a leak gave an early sneak peak of what to expect from Qualcomm's newest creation.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 has eight processing cores instead of four which is the most common in present generation chipsets. The chipset's graphics processing unit also got a major update, something that was expected by many tech analysts as the mobile community is slowly embracing the new virtual reality platform which requires massive graphical computing power to render truly immersive VR experiences.
The leaked document also revealed that the new chipset will support Universal Flash Storage 2.1, and will have significant improvements in terms of data encryption and security, according to Investopedia.
According to Digital Trends, the Snapdragon 835 has a model number MSM8998. The new chipset will take advantage of Samsung's 10nm FinFET manufacturing process which should give the chip more computing power and improvements in power efficiency by being able to pack more transistors into the chips.
Based on the leaked documents, the Snapdragon 835 chipset will be able to deliver up to 40 percent improvements in terms of power efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 820 and the Snapdragon 821 chipsets. In terms of performance, the new chipset will bring about 27 percent improvements compared to current generation chips.
The documents that revealed the specs of the Snapdragon 835 came in days after Qualcomm announced the new Quick Charge 4 fast charging technology. This feature is expected to be integrated into the new chipset. Qualcomm claims that the new fast charging technology can charge up to five-hours of battery life in just five minutes.
There are rumors that Qualcomm will unveil the chipset early next year. The first smartphones using it will be rolled out within the latter part of the first quarter of 2017.
