Sharp Partners With SoftBank to Make Star Wars-Themed Mobile Phones

Japanese mobile carrier SoftBank is launching a pair of Star Wars mobile phones in line with the new "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" movie that is coming out soon. The new phones made by Sharp comes in both dark and light side editions; allowing users to choose their Force allegiance.

The Star Wars mobile phones were manufactured by Sharp and would be released by SoftBank on December 2, with a 5.3-inch 1080p IGZO display. The devices would run on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Both moile phones are equipped with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage (expandable with microSD card), a 22.6MP rear camera, and a 3000mAh battery capacity.

Since the Star Wars mobile phones are special edition merchandise, they come with exclusive features. The smartphones feature live and special wallpapers like the TIE Fighter of X-Wing. It also comes with a pre-loaded "Star Wars: Force Collection" card game.

The Star Wars mobile phones are also equipped with a special Star Wars Movie player app which allows users to stream "The Force Awakens" on their device for free until the year 2020. Users can also use special Star Wars emoji's and ringtones.

Although the Star Wars mobile phones will be available on December 2, Android Authority reported that pre-orders have already started. An equivalent of at least $860 should be expected when the phones hit the market. Digital Trends reported that those who are first in line might also receive a special Star Wars shirt or a 2017 "Rogue One" Calendar.

At the moment, the mobile devices will only be available in the Japanese market. It is unclear when the device would become available in other markets across the world.
