Google's Chromecast media streaming player has a low price tag, but a new Android Pay promotion gives United States customers the chance to win a free unit by making several Android Pay purchases. They must make 10 payment app purchases prior to February 29 to earn a free Chromecast audio/video streamer via a $35 credit. Android Pay customers can also earn up to three songs from Google Play Music.
Several tech blogs noted the new promo named Tap10. It includes some key details such as the need to install the Android Pay app, and make 10 purchases at least five minutes apart before getting a promo code for the Chromecast media streamer, according to The Verge.
Even if Android fans do not make 10 Android Pay purchases, they can still earn at least one song from Google Play Music. They can win a free tune after the first, second, and sixth payment, according to PC Mag.
Droid Life points out that the new promo might not show up in the Android Pay app yet. It is thus important not to start making purchases until it appears, so they will count towards the Chromecast promo.
Android Pay Rewards appears as a card in the user's list of cards. When a person taps it, a user interface appears that shows details about Google's promotion.
One key issue is that purchases must be made five minutes apart, so Android Pay users cannot buy 10 packs of gum or soft drinks at one time. PC Mag points out that since the promo will last for over a month, it would be a wise choice to use the payment app about two times per week for regular purchases, until the end of February.
It is also important to note that the promo is connected to Android Pay. Therefore, iPhone and iPad owners cannot get the gratis media streamer or Google Play songs.
The search giant launched the "new Chromecast" media player in September 2015. This streaming stick that connects to a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) adapter includes an upgraded processor and Wi-Fi antenna.
Google Chromecast was originally released in January 2013. Its first/second generation versions have sold a total 20 million units.
