Tech giant Apple has announced the results of its official Game of the Year awards for iPhone, iPad, and other platforms. To the surprise of many, the iPhone Game of the Year award went to the developer Supercell's Clash Royale, beating arguably the most popular game of the year, Pokémon Go.
Clash Royale, the app that won the biggest category award given to iOS apps, has players facing off against one another by dropping cards from their decks onto a battlefield, which then turn into units with various capabilities. Although the app can be downloaded free from the iOS app store, one can spend money in the app as well to improve one's deck, so that one can face even better players with better cards.
Niantic's Pokémon Go, the location-based game powered by Google Maps that has players catching digital pocket monsters in the real world, was the only mobile game to outgross Clash Royale on iPhone. However, according to Venture Beat, the game did not even make it to the Apple's iPhone top 10 games of the year. Below is the list of iPhone games that made it to top 10.
Clash Royale
Reigns
Inks
FIFA Mobile Football
Klocki
Rodeo Stampede: Sky Zoo Safari
Pktball
Snakebird
Twofold Inc.
The Trail
Pokemon Go might have lost the game because many of its basic features remained broken for months. Additionally, its presentation looked cheap as compared to other games.
