Apple has released its Best of 2016 lists across all the categories including the most popular apps, movies, music, books, TV shows, and podcasts available on its various platforms.
The picks are made by editors of the Apple App Store. While Prisma bagged the award among iPhone apps and Sketchbook Motion in the iPad category, Twitter won for Apple TV, MySwimPro - Personal Swim Trainer for Apple Watch and Bear for Mac. Additionally, Clash Royale was the iPhone Game of the Year while Pokemon Go did not even feature in the top 10 iPhone Games list released by Apple.
Snapchat was the most downloaded free iPhone app, and YouTube was the top free iPad app. While the top paid iPad app was Minecraft: Pocket Edition, the top paid iPhone apps cover a range of categories, with apps like FaceTune, 7 Minute Workout Challenge, Geometry Dash and Face Swap Live making it to the top 10.
Coming to Apple Music, Drake dominated the top spot with his song "One Dance" and album "Views." The Chainsmokers also have two of the top 10 songs this year.
The editors of iTunes Movies recognized films like La La Land, Moonlight and Sing Street. However, iTunes TV's top editorial picks include groundbreaking shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and Atlanta, while longtime TV favorites Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, and Downton Abbey remained top sellers.
Podcasts experienced more than 10 billion downloads and streams over the past 12 months across all the platforms including the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and desktop. Fresh Air from NPR was the top downloaded podcast of the year.
While the editors on iBooks featured powerful titles such as Homegoing, Evicted, Born to Run and If I Was Your Girl on the platform, The Girl on the Train came out as the top-seller for both fiction and audiobooks.
