Pokemon Go players using iOS devices can now download the app for the Apple Watch. Despite recent reports that Niantic was scrapping the release of the Pokemon Go on the Apple Watch, the app now has been released and is available for download.
Pokemon Go is a location-based augmented reality game developed by Niantic Labs for the iOS and Android. It was initially released in July 2016 in selected countries before being rolled out to other countries.
The release of the smartwatch app for the Apple Watch ensures that players do not have to reach for their phones inside their pockets or bags and instead you can just tap the app on the watch.
Similar to the Pokemon Go Plus device, the smartwatch app allows the player to collect items from Pokestops and tells you when a Pokemon is nearby. Except that the Pokemon Go Plus can let you catch a Pokemon that you have caught already by a simple press of a button. On the Apple Watch, however, the app will send you alerts whenever you are near a pokestop, when your eggs hatch, and when you obtain medals. You will still need to take out your phone to catch a nearby Pokemon.
In the fitness aspect of the game, you can track your sessions and log them as part of your daily activity. This is another goal set by Niantic to keep its players fit and healthy. This release follows the recent update by Niantic which brought additional Pokemon characters originally from the Pokemon Gold and Silver video games, Ditto and as well as the festive special edition Pikachu.
Launching the app on the Apple Watch may give old players another reason to return since the hype following the initial release of the game has diminished in the past couple of months.
