Apple is set to unveil another ground-breaking technology in the coming months. The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly collaborating with optics manufacturer Carl Zeiss to create augmented reality (AR) glasses.
According to Tech Times, an employee of Carl Zeiss AG leaked the information that Apple is collaborating with the company for AR optics.
The source, Robert Scoble, said Zeiss has not revealed this technology because its collaboration with Apple is forcing the company to keep everything secretive. This would explain why Zeiss, which makes lenses and optical goods, was in the middle of the augmented reality section at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada without any related product.
Scoble leaked the news at CES 2017.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on augmented reality goggles that would be connected wirelessly to the iPhone and Apple Watch, showing images and other information to users. Inside sources claim the glasses would look similar to the Google Glass which was released in 2013.
Apple's AR glasses could be released next year. However, no one knows what Apple's AR technology holds in store for the world or how it will be implemented. Apple has allegedly contacted potential suppliers to produce screens in small quantities and test the product. However, this does not mean that Apple would indeed release the product as the company is known to test several ideas which never materialize.
