Rumors continue to spread about the upcoming iPhone 8. However, a new theory suggests that instead of an iPhone 8, Apple might be secretly working on an iPhone X.

Basing on the yearly trend of Apple, they should be releasing an iPhone 7s this year. An "S" version is only used if the physical design remains unchanged while the inner specifications are upgraded. But the next device will have a major change both in physical appearance and overall performance, thus being dubbed as the iPhone 8.

Moreover, analyst Timothy Acuri of Cowen and Company believes that the next device will be called iPhone X instead of iPhone 8, and it makes sense as this year marks the iPhone's 10th anniversary (X being the Roman numeral for 10).

The next iPhone will most likely have a 5.8-inch wraparound screen embedded with a fingerprint scanner, earpiece, and a crystal-clear front-facing camera. An iris scanner is also rumored to be featured on the next device adding more security. An infrared sensor may also be placed near the front-facing camera.

Wireless charging will also be used with bigger battery capacity and fast-charging capabilities. Augmented and virtual reality may also be possible for the iPhone X. The camera and video recording capabilities are expected to develop even further if compared to the current iPhone 7.

An OLED screen is also expected on the next line of products, but will only be available for the premium version. Early rumors suggest that the next iPhone may come in three versions - a standard, a Plus, and a Premium. Yet, Arcuri believes that with enough supply of OLED screens, all of the three models might actually have the new display technology.

As September 2017 draws near, more leaks and rumors are expected to come out for the next iPhone 8. Consumers may have lost the thrill for the next release, but a surprise from Apple might change everything in the latter days.
