Sony Computers Network is granting a one day extension to its PlayStation Plus subscribers to make up for the outage incurred on PlayStation Network in Jan. 4 this year.

The one day extension shall be applicable for those PlayStation Plus subscribers whose membership was active on Jan. 4 when the outage occurred. On the said date, PlayStation Network faced a downtime for the latter half of the day. Express reported that many users were unable to access core services on their PlayStations - PS 4, PS 3, PS Vita - for over twelve hours. The outage was extensive but did not appear to be connected to any DDOS attack.

Game Spot reported that Sony has been sending out emails to subscribers with a unique code for an extension credit. Once users redeem their code, their membership would be automatically extended by one day. According to Sony's email, the extension shall be applied to the end of current membership. The code needs to be redeemed until March 31, 2016.

In addition to the extension code, Sony also thanked its users for their patience during the recent service interruption.

Dual Shockers mentioned that emails have been sent out to most American subscribers; however, emails would be sent to subscribers from Europe and other countries shortly. It also speculates that Sony may soon be sending out similar extension codes to subscribers of other services like PlayStation Vue and PlayStation Now.

Websites have remained undecided whether Sony shall offer extensions to those with memberships to video rentals and PlayStation Now services. Game Spot reported that it cannot confirm the said information, whereas other reports mentions that Sony had promised earlier 2016 that it would offer extension codes to PS Plus, PS Now and video rental customers.

Sony has been known in the past to offer extension services whenever its network faced outages. It can be noted that Sony offered a 5-day extension to its subscribers in Christmas 2014, following a week-long outage.
