Netflix recently added a download option for its users. It is now expanding the feature to Android users. This new feature is especially useful for people with low storage devices as now they can download content onto an SD card.
The latest version of the app lets users decide whether they want to download their shows and movies to their internal storage or external. However, the company has kept the expiration limits for the content. This limit will apply to the content stored on the SD card as well.
The update is likely to be available to all the users by now. Users can access their app settings, located at the bottom to find the location of the downloads. This can be done by tapping "download location" under app setting menu. The location may differ from device to device.
Netflix added a download and offline viewing function late last year. The feature had been pending for quite some time. In the face of growing competition from the likes of Amazon, Netflix has added other options to the download feature as the users may choose to download content only over Wi-Fi connection.
However, the download feature is not available for all content. It is also not available on all devices. The latest feature of storing content on your SD card is not available for all Android devices. Therefore, it is worthwhile to check whether a particular device supports this feature or not.
The downloaded content comes with DRM protection. The videos are also encoded in a specific ".nfv" format, and hence can be played only using Netflix player. However, even with these restrictions, the new feature is likely to prove highly beneficial to those with low storage devices or slow internet connection.
