Ricoh has officially unveiled the Pentax KP, a compact weatherproof DSLR with extreme low-light shooting capability. The Pentax KP features a highly sensitive image sensor which is up to ISO 819200. This enables the camera to capture images in dark environments even with very minimal amount of light.
The Pentax KP's exterior features an intuitive design which is dust-proof with built-in Dust Removal II for shaking off dust using ultrasonic vibrations. The device is also weather resistant and is constructed to withstand cold temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius.
"We designed the Pentax KP to appeal to the world's most discerning outdoor photographers, who will appreciate its rich and powerful feature set and rugged, compact design, whether they are shooting a landscape on a trek in Patagonia or capturing an eclipse," said a statement from Kaz Eguchi, President of Ricoh Imaging America.
The Pentax KP boasts a 24.3-megapixel APS-C AA filter-less CMOS sensor with 27 autofocus points. The camera also features Shake Reduction II, which uses a 5-axis system to stabilize the camera while capturing images. The camera also has a Pixel Shift Resolution system with motion correction function allowing the camera to capture multiple images in rapid succession and combining them to produce a single high-resolution photo.
Other specifications of the KP includes an electronic shutter speed of 1/24000s, an approximately 100 percent FOV optical viewfinder, 1080p resolution of Full HD video recording, burst shooting of 4k photos, built-in wireless LAN for use with Image Sync app.
It also has customizable info screen control, a smart function dial and an exchangeable grip with three sizes available.
The Pentax KP is priced at $1,099.95 and shipping will start on February 25, 2017.
