The smartphone start-up company Nextbit has been acquired by the laptop gaming major Razer Gaming Systems for an undisclosed amount. The deal, sealed in the last week of Friday, will give Razer a complete control over Nextbit's management and employees.

Nextbit was founded by the former employees of Google Android and former head of the HTC design division.

A press release announcing the acquisition said: "Razor has acquired the majority of assets of Nextbit Systems Inc. and has brought onboard the management and employees of the company."

The press release also categorically mentioned that Nextbit will operate largely as an independent company, working as a "standalone business unit under its own management."

Nextbit CEO Tom Moss said in an interview that the acquisition would give the firm more access to the resources that would not have been possible otherwise. He also confirmed that Nextbit staff will operate in the current location in San Francisco.

Nextbit last year introduced its first Android phone 'Robin' into the market as a "Cloud-first" phone. Offering cloud storage of 100 GB, the phone promised its consumers that they will never run out of storage space.

This storage specialist phone was launched after raising funds through popular crowd sourcing platform Kickstarter. The start-up company manage to raise almost $ 1 million during its one month fund raising campaign.

Its promise to offer 'unprecedented storage space' proved to be an differentiating factor during the fund raising company.

However, industry experts claim that Nextbit's Robin did not exactly take the mobile industry by storm. This despite the fact that the phone managed to garner amazing sales figures during the initial months of its launch.

As for Razer, Nextbit is just an addition to series of major acquisition that the gaming firm has been intensively pursuing for couple of months now.  Last year, it acquired the audio technology company THX, which was founded by the renowned Hollywood film-maker by George Lucas in 1983.
