The five Alcatel smartphones have been tipped to launch on Feb. 27 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 event.
The TCL-brand tech company Alcatel has sent out invites for its press gathering. It will host an event on Feb. 27 in Barcelona, which is scheduled at 9:30 p.m. CET (2 p.m. IST). It is expected to launch as many as five smartphones then.
Alcatel's invite contains the words 'Light Up' on the front and center and features a lit-up device with a mesh-like design, similar to a previous leak. The leak recently tipped the launch of a modular smartphone at the MWC 2017 event.
The Alcatel modular smartphone has Moto Mods-like attachments at the back that look like an LED-dotted panel to light up at the back. These attachments will glow in different colors when syncing to the music being played like the JBL Pulse speakers.
Previous reports claim that the Alcatel modular smartphone will be powered by an octa-core MediaTek chipset under the hood. It will also feature a 13-megapixel camera at the back with a dual-tone LED flash. More clarity on these smartphones will only be attained on the event day.
The Alcatel modular smartphone offers users the opportunity to buy another replaceable back module for customization. In fact, it could be the Alcatel Idol 5 smartphone, which would be the successor to the Alcatel Idol 4 launched at the MWC 2016.
The details on how many modular would be available or what categories it would fit into are not available. However, the Alcatel modular smartphone is expected to go with a price tag of $407.71 (around €320 or Rs. 27,400 or more), especially unlocked.
Apart from Alcatel, Sony is expected to unveil as many as five smartphones at the MWC 2017 event. Lenovo's Moto brand will also introduce the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus smartphones at an event in Barcelona on Feb. 26.
