The 2018 Ford EcoSport has taken inspiration from the bee. What could have been the innovation in its design that can be associated to the world's busy insect?
Taking innovation to a much higher level, the new product from the giant American car manufacturer is making things lighter. This means that the upcoming vehicle is a representation of fuel-efficient perfomance and tiny carbon footprint, which can be likened to that of one of the Earth's tiniest creatures.
The 2018 Ford EcoSport features a cargo shelf designed after the bee's honeycomb, which is capable of carrying 100 times its weight. Having that in mind, the car's cargo compartment boasts of a much bigger capacity compared to its predecessor.
"The hexagonal design of honeycomb is a testament to nature's ingenuity," Mike Mazzella, Ford EcoSport assistant chief engineer, said. "Not only is it strong, it's superlight."
"Customers can slide the shelf into multiple different slots like an oven rack; even store it on the back of the seats," he added about the 2018 Ford EcoSport. "It helps make EcoSport super-flexible in everyday use."
It was explained that the innovative honeycomb design of the unit has a "phenomenal strength-to-weight ratio." While its weight is only pegged at six pounds, along with a dimension of 38.5-inch by 25.25-inch, it could still handle about 318 kg of cargo.
In the meantime, the Car Connection did a review of the EcoSport's new build and design. Reports revealed that it could arrive in the United States soon.
Car reviewer Andrew Ganz noted four major good points of the latest EcoSport model. He, however, identified three setbacks as well.
For him, the things to like about it are its cheeky style, clean-looking interior, choice of powertrains and tailgate door could be useful. The things that might make consumers to dislike the 2018 EcoSport are the absence of AWD with 3-cylinder, has been on sale globally for a long time and tailgate may also be inconvenient.
