"Pokemon GO" has just announced a new event that will make its players busier in the midst of catching all the newly released Gen 2 monsters. The event will release special party Pikachus into the wild, and players will be able to keep them forever.
The newest "Pokemon GO" event starts on Feb. 26 1 p.m. PST and ends on March 6 1 p.m. PST, according to Express. During this time, every Pikachu that players will encounter will be wearing a special party hat.
That's about all there is to the event, which is not really much. However, those aiming to literally catch 'em all should be excited to catch a new Pikachu - one that goes well with the other limited Pikachu wearing a special kind of hat.
Last Christmas season, Niantic also released a special Pikachu into the wild. To celebrate the holiday, the mouse creature was fitted with a Santa Hat and like the party hat, it stays with the players indefinitely. And similar to the event right now, no other Pokemon was given the hat.
It's yet to be known if Pikachu's spawn rates will increase during the event, but as Attack of the Fanboy pointed out, the Christmas event boosted the encounter rate of the Pokemon even in rural areas. It would not be a surprise if Niantic briefly raises the frequency of appearance to give a better chance to players to catch the special monster.
The "Pokemon GO" event is also launched to celebrate a special day: the Pokemon Day on Feb. 27, which commemorates the launch of the first "Pokemon" games in Japan. But Niantic's special limited-event offering is only a small part of The Pokemon Company's plans for the special day. Fans of the franchise can look forward to competitions, in-game events and even movie marathons.
