Cancer is one of the relevant diseases in this generation that is caused by DNA mutations of the cell. There are also other factors that contribute to this sickness like the food that we eat; a recent study lists down the 15 foods that may cause cancer.
Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases today. Factors that may influence people to get this disease includes genetics and lifestyle choice (drinking alcohol and smoking).
Diet may also be one of the major factors, according to Prevention Pulse. These 12 foods can contribute to the rapid development of cancer.
Soda Pop
Soda is associated with inflammation, weight gain, and insulin resistance that may lead a person in developing gastroesophageal reflux. Soda pop also has chemicals and artificial colorings that increase the risk of developing cancer.
Potato Chips
Dyes and artificial preservatives are fried at a high temperature in this food. The process creates a compound called acrylamide; known to be a carcinogen found in cigarettes.
Processed Meats
Bacon, hot dogs, and sausages are all processed meat that contains chemicals and high amount of salt. Chemicals like sodium nitrate will improve the appearance of meats. However, the chemicals are also carcinogenic.
Canned Tomatoes
Freshly picked tomatoes are good, but canned tomatoes may put one's health at risk. The can that is used to store tomatoes usually contain a chemical substance called bisphenol-a (BPA). Tomatoes are very acidic; therefore, canned tomatoes can cause leeching to the BPA in the lining of the can.
Microwave Popcorns
Popcorn is completely harmless, but a bag that has been microwaved is harmful. Bags of microwave popcorns are lined with a chemical called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) or Teflon. This can cause infertility to women based on a study from the University of California. Additionally, PFOA is also a significant factor in developing kidney, bladder, liver, and testicular cancer.
Hydrogenated Oils
One of the most common used hydrogenated oil is the vegetable oil. It contains a variety of deadly trans fat; the kind of fat that is unhealthy. Substitute hydrogenated oils with coconut, olive, or grapeseed oil.
French Fries
Some french fries contain high sodium with hydrogenated vegetable oil. One of the most common chemicals found in fFench fries is acrylamide; foods that are fried in high temperature contain this carcinogen.
Farm Raised Fish
In a recent study at the University of Albany, farmed fish such as tilapia, salmon, and cod were found to have pesticides, flame retardants, and antibiotics. These ingredients are linked to developing cancer.
Alcohol
In a survey conducted on American women, 30 percent who consumes alcoholic beverage per day were found to likely develop breast cancer. The second leading cause of cancer is also said to be due to excessive alcohol intake.
Artificial Sweetener
Study regarding artificial sweeteners is not yet complete. But researchers have found that artificial sugar will likely end in the body by breaking down into a substance called DKP. This is a deadly toxin that produces chemicals that cause a brain tumor.
Refined Sugars
High fructose corn syrup is considered as refined sugars that can be converted into cancer cells. Researchers back in 1931 found that tumors rely on sugar and will increase the size and production of the cancer cell.
Smoked Meats
In the process of smoking, the meat will absorb the tar from the smoke. Tar is a toxin found in tobacco; one of the leading causes of cancer.
Pickled Foods
A study from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2014 found that pickled foods have been linked to developing cancer. People who consume these foods has a 50 percent increased the risk of gastric cancer.
Diet Foods
These foods contain artificial coloring and artificial sugar that are full of chemicals. Food dyes such as Yellow 6, Yellow 5, and Red 40 have carcinogens.
Refined White Flour
This is also described as "bleached flour" because it undergoes the process of bleaching. However, there are still traces of chemicals found in it. Processed flour contains high carbohydrate level. Increase blood sugar level will also increase the insulin level which is one of the food sources of cancer cells.
These foods are also called as "worst offenders" because aside from cancer, they also contribute to developing other diseases like heart failure, diabetes, and obesity.
