Samsung is giving three compelling reasons for Android fans to jump to the Galaxy S7 on release date. The Galaxy S6 replacement will reportedly deploy with a bigger battery capacity plus the return of two signature flagship features - memory expansion and protection from water and dust intrusion.
Writing for Venture Beat, gadget leaker Evan Blass said in a new report that the Galaxy S7 will bring back a feature that the S6 notably skipped last year - a microSD slot that will allow users to slide in extra device memory when needed. It is expected that the storage expansion capability of S7 will support 128GB of memory card.
However, as the Galaxy S7 is said to mirror the same all-metal and glass finish of the Galaxy S6, the device back plate will remain non-removable, which means that the battery pack cannot be replaced like in the older Galaxy flagship models. Instead, Samsung plans to bump up the battery rating of its upcoming flagships.
For the regular S7, it will be 3000mAh from 2550mAh found on the Galaxy S6 and 3600mAh for the S7 Edge, a step up from the 2600mAh packed with the S6 Edge in 2015, Blass claimed.
Incidentally, the bigger Galaxy S7 battery seems to have been hinted by a leaked 3D render of the device that showed off a thicker profile. According to uSwitch, from the 6.9mm thin Galaxy S6, the S7 will measure at 7.9mm and the dimensional adjustment was apparently to make room for the large battery upgrade.
Lastly, Samsung is bringing back a Galaxy flagship feature it previously introduced but decided to skip with the Galaxy S6 - water and dust protection. The Galaxy S7 will unbox with IP67 rating, meaning it has waterproofing features, Blass reported.
The Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge on release date are also rumored with the following headline features: a Snapdragon 820 chip, up to 4GB of RAM, 2K screen resolution and a 20MP rear camera. Speculations are rife that Samsung plans an unveiling on February 2016 with the actual rollout to happen in the following month.
