Jio, a new carrier from India has reportedly collaborated with Google to launch an Android One smartphone with affordable pricing in the near future.

Jio was introduced in September 2016 and since then it has earned the reputation of the world's quickest growing mobile carrier. In a short span of time, it has urged users from other service providers to join and grow its network to reach 100 million users mark in just 170 days, Phone Arena reported.

Fresh information suggest that Google and Jio have collaborated to launch an affordable 4G smartphone, The Hindu Business Line reported by citing unnamed sources from the industry. Rumors have it that the smartphone will be exclusively available through Jio. It is speculated to debut at the end of this year. It is likely to carry Google branding.

As of this writing, there is no information available from Google and Jio on the rumored Android One smartphone. The search engine giant had introduced Android One smartphone to make customers in the developing markets. The partnership of both companies will help Jio get good exposure to a wider market and also Google will benefit by making its services like Google Assistant available to emerging markets.

During a recent interview, Rick Osterloh, the Senior VP of Hardware refuted the rumors about launching a low-budget Pixel phone. However, recent rumors hint that the same team has been building Pixel phones are working on a new Android One smartphone.

In September 2014, Google had introduced a few Android One smartphones in collaboration with Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. These OEMs had manufactured the Android One phones, but Google had managed their design, marketing and end-user support. The Google Android One smartphones did not achieve much success as there was not much differences between the devices and they could not compete against highly popular Chinese brands like Xiaomi.
