As Android 7.0 Nougat began to roll out with other devices earlier and later this year. Some reports already revealed about the possible features and release date of the upcoming and latest version of the devices' operating system, the Android O.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, the senior vice president of Android has been dropping clues about the future OS on Twitter. Others assumed that Android 'O' stands for Android Oreo, yet, there are no confirmation that this will be the official title of the latest update.
Some speculations about the features of the latest OS includes smart text selection floating toolbar with Google Assistant integration, more restrictions for background apps, and picture-in-picture mode like Android TV. In a report from 9to5Google, the Android O will probably introduce new notification system and is rumored to be designed by Andromeda OS.
The update is also said to have new app icon badges for active notifications; users can see the number of notifications there is for each application just by checking the home screen. Also, adaptive icons that change dynamically might be added.
The specific details of these features are still limited at the moment. More features are expected to reveal when Android O is presented at Google I/O 2017, held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on May 17.
The final build of Android O is said to be available few months later, or perhaps this coming August. It is expected to come first on devices like Google Pixel XL, Google Pixel, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P.
