There are rumors that AMD is set to hit at Intel yet again with a faster 16C/32T processor that will cost less than $1000.
AMD disrupted Intel's market when it introduced its new Ryzen processors that offers similar or better performance than the Core i-series at much cheaper prices.
For instance, AMD's flagship CPU Ryzen 7 1800X featuring 8C/16T @ 4GHz went on sale for only $499, while Intel's Core i7-6900K with a comparable performance has a price tag of $999.
AMD strikes again
According to Overclock 3D, AMD is said to be creating a 16-core and 32 thread - Ryzen CPU that will compete with the X99 and Intel's 10-core i7-6950x.
The new high-end desktop platform (HEDT), which is capable of supporting quad-channel DDR4 memory, is set to hit the market over the next few months during the Computex technology show.
Furthermore, Overclock 3D reported that the new platform is said to be coming with an X399 socket and an LGA CPU. This, in essence, bridges the gap between old-school desktop CPUs and server platforms.
Most importantly, the 16-core AMD Ryzen only costs $999 which is way cheaper than Intel's current flagship Core i7-6950X, which costs over $1600.
It is important to note that these rumors have no real backing with no leaked roadmaps to show or any evidence to corroborate these claims.
AMD remains silent about the possibility of a 16-core AMD Ryzen CPU at the moment.
SegmentNext has also advised the public to take the information floating around forums with a grain of salt until the company releases an official confirmation.
