Microsoft is reportedly working on the Surface Book 2 with more sophisticated features such as a Kaby Lake processor and 4K display. It is said to be priced lower than the current model as well.
Microsoft is said to have opted for a clamshell design for the upcoming device. Besides letting go of its signature Surface design, will the Surface Book 2 be just a regular laptop or there is something special about it.
Microsoft has yet to confirm the speculations even though there are claims that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is already in its mass production stage. Supply chain related sources suggest that the Surface Book 2 will come with a 13.5-inch 4K display, magnesium-aluminum-alloy body and VR support.
It is also rumored to do away with the 2-in-1 hybrid experience which the Surface Book is popular for. The company is said to offer the Surface Book 2 at about 1,000 USD which is a lot lower than its predecessor's price.
Fans may be shocked that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 will not have the 2-in-1 design of its predecessor but leaks and rumors are not really confirmed. Unless Microsoft itself confirms these speculations, nothing is still for sure.
The company's move to change the design was said to be caused by the Surface Book's lower-than-expected demand, high price and detachable design which conflicts the Surface Pro line. If this is true, Microsoft may intend to compete against more established laptop manufacturers.
The competition among high-end traditional laptops is already tight and Microsoft will shake it up with a laptop that comes with Surface Pro specs for only 1,000 USD. This means the company may target both mid and high end laptop users for the upcoming Surface Book 2 and may just win this time.
