A major part of the Earth was in total darkness for an hour last Saturday. A large number of countries reportedly took part in the campaign to protect the planet. People turned off their light at 8:30 p.m. to mark the Earth Hour 2017. During that time, houses, cities, tourist spots, campuses, and even business districts turned off their light to fight climate change.
The campaign has been successfully executed for 11 years. Some of the famous places that have committed joining the campaign to protect the planet include the Golden Gate Bridge, the Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House, Niagara Falls, and the Eiffel Tower.
According to Delmarva Now, Terry Macho, senior vice president of marketing and communications at World Wildlife Fund, admitted that the fight is getting critical as time goes by.
"There's never been a more critical moment in the fight," the statement reads. "Earth Hour is the opportunity to send a message that we remain steadfast in delivering on the goals of the Paris Agreement,"
Earth Hour 2017 also raised awareness about the real condition of our home. Campaigners urged everyone to join the movement by simply changing their Facebook display pictures and providing donations. As a matter of fact, some artists offered live performances during the momentous hour like Valerie June and Bridgit Mendler.
Also, Maroon 5 showed their unwavering support for the Earth Hour 2017 program by making posts on their official social media account which have gained tons of retweets and likes.
