After CD Projekt RED's long silence on the possible sequel of its award winning action RPG, "The Witcher 4" could happen after all. While the developer announced that the third installment was the last of the series, it appears that it will only be at least for the main character, Geralt.
"The Witcher" is designed as a trilogy, which is focused on the story of Geralt and according to Adam Kiciński of CD Projekt RED, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" is the end of the series. Speaking to their investors, Kiciński stated: "The Witcher was designed as a trilogy and a trilogy cannot have a fourth part, can it?"
And speaking about another Witcher game, he said that they have invested 15 years of their lives in this game as well as a lot of money. So, they are not closing their doors to the possibility of another sequel. "We'll think about it," said Kiciński.
The next most prominent character in the game is Ciri and Segment Next noted the possibility of seeing her taking the lead role in the next Witcher game. There could possibly be no "The Witcher 4" but there might be another game of a different title from the Witcher world with Ciri as the lead character.
Fans can possibly explore her story after the events of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and since there were multiple endings to game, the developer can choose from the different story arcs for "The Witcher 4". The story of Ciri has depth and the developer can explore into the different aspects of her adventure and exploits.
CD Projekt RED is currently working on Cyberpunk 2077, which is rumored for a mid-2019 launch. So, even if the developer will consider in making "The Witcher 4", it will not be anytime soon.
"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" is viewed by many as the best RPG ever made. The three entries in the series made an impressive sales of 25 million copies for PS4, Xbox One and PC, which calls for "The Witcher 4" to happen sooner or later.
