Snapchat has a new feature of adding friends easier, removing the need to do searches.

There are many ways to add friends in Snapchat. One is searching for their user name, the other opening the app and using the camera to read the other users Snap Code, sort of like a QR code.

But now, Snapchat has added this personalized URLs feature rather quietly and it has only just been discovered in the app. It lets users create a unique URL which they can share with friends. Personalized URLs can be accessed by pulling down on the menu bar in camera mode and tapping on Add Friends.

There you will notice a new menu item called Share Username. The URL can easily be shared with friends via SMS, email, and other messaging app, Gizmodo reported. When the users’ friend taps on this link it will automatically tell Snapchat to add them as a new friend.

These links are not customizable, so user cannot edit them. The URL looks like this: /add/username to the end of Snapchat’s URL. Now whoever clicks on that link will instantly add them as a friend on Snapchat, making it much easier than just sharing the Snap Code. If the user clicks the link and they are not on their smartphone, or do not have the app installed, they will be directed to a page asking them to install it with links to both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

New links for adding others are only available in the newest version of Snapchat, according to Android Headlines. To get the personalized link, simply open the app, swipe down on the camera screen and tap on “Add Friends.” The page offers a lot of choices, along with a “Share Username” at the bottom. User can tap on that and it will provide a link, and then pops up the Android Share menu allowing them to share it anywhere, or just copy the link.

Users can send the link via text or any other messaging service. When someone opens the URL from their phone, it will automatically prompt Snapchat to add you them as a new user.

The update is significant because it streamlines the friend-adding process, and allows people to share their links on other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, so that they can rack up viewers quickly.
