The next Motorola flagship smartphone, likely to be called the Moto X 2016, is reportedly set for a June release date this year as the older model has become more affordable, shaving off $50 from the latest sticker price. With the latest iteration supposedly coming out soon, the Moto X 2015 is ready to take home for only $250.

Android Authority reported that the Moto X discount promo will run for a limited time and the deal being dangled is something to rush about. Out of the box, the 2014 Motorola flagship boasts of a 5.2-inch AMOLED display panel and is fired up by the combo of Snapdragon 810 chip and 2GB of RAM.

The Moto X 2014 camera system is headlined by a 16-megapixel rear shooter and running the show is Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which needless to say is upgradable to the next version or the new Android build the moment it becomes available.

But if the kit that Motorola has issued two years ago isn't tempting enough then the 2016 package might just do a better job. According to 9to5Google, the company behind the Moto X series is planning to rollout a new device July this year and presumably it will be the latest Moto X installment.

However, instead of Motorola taking the lead it is Lenovo that will be up center stage during the revelation moment. From Google, the device maker from China purchased Motorola and the former has indicated that the decades-old brand name is up for retirement this year.

Lenovo though appears bent to keep the Moto X smartphone line going, which makes sense as the brand brought the Motorola name back to consumers' awareness amidst the smartphone market dominance of Apple and Samsung in the past years.

How exactly Lenovo will challenge the industry leaders remains a mystery but the company dropped clues that its upcoming handsets are "more innovative ... and more attractive," 9to5Google said on its report, adding that the Moto X this 2016 is expected to out-spec the last model.

"While the Motorola brand is being phased out, Lenovo is keeping the Moto name for their higher end line of smartphones," the report said, indicating that the follow up to the Moto X 2015 is packed with feature upgrades to overwhelm the competition.

As early as last year, the Moto X 2016 on release date is rumored to represent an overhaul of the past models - likely becoming slimmer and more powerful with emerging standard features such as bigger display panel with Full HD resolution and biometric capabilities.
