Apart from the Galaxy S8, LG G6, Xiaomi Mi6 and OnePlus 5 there is one flagship device that's creating buzz in the Android world right now. Report said the bezel-free Essential phone is coming out soon and it will be the creation of Andy Rubin, regarded as the father of Android.
In the past weeks, Rubin dropped clues on his latest project that reportedly will lead to the launch of a handset that will boast of an all-screen design or the same device profile now seen with the Galaxy S8 and is said to be employed by Apple as well with the iPhone 8. But Rubin's hint was mostly an image of a largely covered phone but with the bezel-free front panel easily noticeable. Save for the fact that the device will run on Android no further details accompanied the tease and that was it.
Now thanks to the leaked GFX Bench result pointed to by Phone Arena, Android fans have been provided with the supposedly juicy details of the handset that currently goes by the codename The Essential FIH-PM1. The label is likely attributed to the firm that designed the device, identified by the same report as Essential Products.
It's possible though that when the product is unboxed, Rubin will give it a more catchy name.
Based on the leaked details, Rubin's Essential phone will be mass manufactured by Foxconn International Holdings as indicated on the codename mentioned above. If Foxconn rings a bell it's because the company is Apple's major supplier of assembled iPhones and iPads.
As for the specifications, the GFX Bench document detailed of a 5.5-inch display for the Rubin phone that likely will boast of OLED panel like its Apple and Samsung rival. The screen will render in 2560 x 1312 pixels that qualifies for 2K resolution or of flagship breed.
On the camera side, the rear shooter is 12MP that can record 4K videos and the front is 8MP that as expected is selfie-optimized. Firing up the whole thing is Snapdragon 835 on the CPU and Adreno 540 on the GPU with more than sufficient RAM support of 4GB. Basic storage is set at 16GB but the prototype appears to show usable memory space of 10GB.
And to run the monster show that the Essential phone is touted to be is the latest build of Android Nougat. But fans shouldn't discount the possibility of the device unboxing with Android 8.0, which Google is rumored to label as Android O (Oreo) when the OS is revealed this coming May.
As the time of writing, Rubin is yet to indicate his release date plans for the all-screen Essential Android phone but according to 9to5Google, availability is likely scheduled between June and July 2017 with starting price of $649.
