Scientists are currently studying on an aurora seen in Canada. This aurora has been named Steve by onlookers.
A group of aurora chasers was able to witness the phenomenal aurora in Canada. They did not know what to call it and decided to give it a name. They then named the aurora Steve. Scientists are already looking at this unique phenomenon on Earth.
It may be that this aurora witnessed in Canada will get a more scientific name in the future. Aurora happens when the sun blasts high-energy particles towards Earth and forms geomagnetic storms. These storms interact with particles in the upper atmosphere of the Earth. The result for this kind of event gives out a colorful picture and brings out shimmering lights.
The latest aurora that was named Steve was found out by Professor Eric Donovan of the University of Calgary. The picture was uploaded by the aurora chasers in their Facebook page. It turns out that Steve is a common aurora that not all can notice.
Meanwhile, scientists have created an acronym for Steve and this means Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement. This latest aurora being discovered is different from the ones in the northern skies.
It is indicated that Steve is more of a narrow shaped aurora and has a purple color to it. This latest aurora has been discovered in 2016. It also is capable of moving around. The aurora from the northern skies is usually giving a different light show every time these lights show up.
Steve is a unique one and scientists are looking deeper on what this is about. There may be more to be witnessed in the skies. This is just one phenomenon that the Earth has in store. There may be more that scientists can discover along the way.
For now, the aurora Steve is one of those things that scientists are looking into to describe what these lovely lights on Earth are made of.
