OnePlus CEO Peter Lau has confirmed that his company is working on another flagship killer that on release date will be likely called the OnePlus 5. However, the new things to expect with the device remain "a big surprise," to OP fans.
In a Weibo post, Lau shared a poster that declared work is now underway for a new handset and OnePlus employees are "indulge in labor without a break." The OnePlus boss further teased that the tag line "Never Settle" will remain as the inspiration behind the company's next-generation flagship killer.
But with the juicy details withheld by Lau for now, what big surprise the next OnePlus model could be? BGR ventured a guess on its report, saying the OnePlus 5 itself is the surprise Lau is teasing about. It is assumed that the sequel to the OnePlus 3T will be known as OnePlus 5 as calling the device OnePlus 4 is reportedly out of the question.
In China, number is considered a jinx so naturally OnePlus will not want their next offering to turn out as magnet for misfortunes. And possibly another surprise for long-time OP fans is the continuing emphasis on the Never Settle motto, which BGR said could indicate that the OnePlus 5 will remain flagship device with premium design and specifications but with a relatively affordable asking price. That means the next instalment from OnePlus will be inviting, mostly thanks to its sticker price that is the lowest in its class.
Or the OnePlus big surprise could also come in the form of killer features for the refresh such as dual camera setup and wireless charging, WCCFTech said, adding it's possible too that the OnePlus 5 will be getting a better firmware support. "What the poster could reveal is that these engineers will be rolling out frequent system and security updates so that you never feel that the device is slowing down or is vulnerable to threats," the report said.
If true then the OnePlus 5 is no doubt shaping up as a total package, software- and hardware-wise. OnePlus leveling up on its OS game will certainly complement the rumored hardware specs for the next model, headlined by the combo of Snapdragon 835 chip and 6GB RAM, an AMOLED display panel in QHD resolution and metal-glass finish to match what was seen with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and what is expected with the Apple iPhone 8.
The OnePlus 5 release date could be set June 2017 or one year after the OnePlus 3 was made available.
