Of the three rumored Pixel phones to come out this 2017, one is said to be a supersized device with combined functions of a smartphone and a tablet. The hybrid handset is reported to be codenamed Taimen and will be powered by the tandem of Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4GB of RAM.

The fresh details were revealed thanks to the leaked Geekbench result that supposedly contained the processing performance of the extra-large Pixel 2 device. The scores returned were 6248 on multi-core and 1804 on single-core, which according to Techno Buffalo were impressive numbers.

The same report said the scores were generated by the Taimen device that is fired up by SD 835 with support of 4GB RAM. No further specifications have been provided.

However, the Pixel XXL has been mentioned before as the likely candidate to replace the Nexus 7, the last iteration of which was seen in 2013. But unlike its predecessor, the jumbo Pixel device is basically designed as a phone but the large display will also permit its use as a compact tablet.

If the rumors are correct, Google is envisioning the Pixel XXL as the Stock Android challenger of extra-large phablets out there, chief of them the Galaxy A9 Pro and C9 Pro from Samsung and the Xiaomi Mi Max.

But to be clear, nothing is solid about the Pixel save for the hints that it will be the third and largest Pixel model to drop this year. The other two are the Pixel 2 that is codenamed Walleye and the Pixel 2 XL that is known for now as Muskie.

There are reports that claimed the Pixel 2017 will remain a hardware project that Google will entrust to HTC, which took charge of the 2016 versions. But the latest news from South Korea suggested former Nexus device maker LG could be entering the scene and work with Google in putting together a new batch of Pure Android handsets.

Per BGR, LG will handle the Pixel 3 project next year but there is a possibility the company will be tasked by Google to provide one Pixel hardware this 2017. If HTC will keep the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL contracts then it is likely LG will be the one to manufacture Taimen, which could end up as the Nexus 7 2017 edition.

As mentioned, everything about the Pixel XXL remains in rumor zone but something concrete could come out next week when Google formally introduces Android 8.0 Oreo via the Google I/O 2017. It might be a Pixel will be previewed alongside the new Android but a device release date is not expected until later in the year.
