The LG G6 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 are already out and the next big thing to anticipate has to be the sequel to the OnePlus 3T, confirmed to be called OnePlus 5. Rumors say the next-gen flagship killer will use the same industrial design seen with the LG and Samsung 2017 hero phones but it looks like OnePlus has other plans.
The GS8 was jaw-dropping with the Infinity Display and nearly the same effect was seen with the LG G6 unpacking so it was no brainer that the next OnePlus will also boast of bezel-free front display. However, the latest from China seems to indicate that all-screen display is not part of the OnePlus 5 deal.
According to GizmoChina, OnePlus 5 founder Liu Zuotu confirmed via Weibo, China's biggest micro-blogging site, that the OP5 will have a front-located fingerprint sensor. With the handset feature confirmed, it follows then that the upcoming device will skip the same feature that made the GS8 the hottest Android device this 2017.
The Galaxy S8 came with the fingerprint reader situated at the rear panel of the device. There were talks Samsung attempted to embed the biometric feature with the GS8's front glass display but the Asian tech giant ran out of time.
It remains to be seen if the fingerprint sensor mentioned by Liu on his Weibo post will involve the same technique that Samsung had originally planned for the GS8. But it's safer to assume that the OnePlus 5 will opt for the same solution opted by Samsung.
That's because the next OnePlus is said to be coming out summer of 2017, which is happening soon. And speculations are rife the handset will make use of the same main engine that powered the Galaxy S8. That would be Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chip that reports said will be paired with 6GB of RAM support and 64GB of basic storage. But a higher model is not discounted with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal memory.
And according to Tech Radar, the OnePlus 5 will remain affordable and keep its flagship status, contradicting the recent rumors that the device will sell starting at $600+. The same report claimed the OP5 sticker price will start at $440.
If the rumored summer release date will hold, it's very likely the OnePlus 5 unpacking will happen as early as June 2017.
