"Borderlands 3" or "Bioshock 4"? Which AAA title will Take-Two launch alongside "Red Dead Redemption 2" in 2018? Here's what is revealed so far.
In its recent earnings call, Take-Two has reported its end of year financial report from last year's revenue including its plans for the next fiscal years. The big news that might have disappointed fans is the delay of "Red Dead Redemption 2" release date from Fall 2017 to an unspecified 2018 launch.
Take-Two only said that the Wild West action adventure sequel will not arrive this fiscal year. Needless to say, the game will not hit store shelves until April 2018 at the earliest, so fans can expect the game to be out around Q2 2018.
But there is some good news out of this bad news coming from Take-Two. CEO Strauss Zelnick has also confirmed that an AAA title from one of 2K's biggest franchises will be released next year to join "Red Dead Redemption 2".
"Looking ahead to fiscal 2019, we expect to deliver both record Net Sales and record net cash provided by operating activities, in excess of $2.5 billion and $700 million, respectively, led by the launches of Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 and a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K's biggest franchises," Zelnick said.
The big question mark now is what AAA title will this be. Speculations swirl that this huge project is either "Borderlands 3" or "Bioshock 4".
Seemingly, game analysts has already drawn an answer to the question and that is "Borderlands 3". Why so? Its development was then confirmed at this year's GDC when Gearbox's Randy Pitchford showcased tech demo for the third installment of the series.
Then Pitchford once again teased "Borderlands 3" on Twitter and posted a photo of himself wearing a motion capture gear. As for "Bioshock 4", Ken Levine and Irrational Games have departed 2K following the release of "BioShock: Infinite" and 2K announced that 2K Marin will take over as developer of future entries to "Bioshock" series.
Between the two 2K future titles, fans tend to favor "Borderlands 3" over "Bioshock 4" in recent online surveys. Perhaps, 2K will shed more light on which AAA title is coming in 2018 with "Red Dead Redemption 2" at E3.
