An independent and new study suggests that IQOS smokeless cigarettes have more cancer-causing chemicals than ordinary cigarettes, opposed to the claim of Philip Morris and other smoking companies.
Smoking companies like Philip Morris have been marketing and claiming that smokeless cigarettes are completely safe, and could be used as alternatives to ordinary cigarettes. However, the new study implies that thousands of people believed to these ads, but actually have cancer-causing chemicals.
Smoking Giants advertised IQOS smokeless cigarettes and these advertisements are said to be deceiving and baseless. The independent study was conducted by Swiss researchers and was published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, according to Daily Mail.
Traditional cigarettes burn tobacco, while IQOS smokeless cigarettes heat tobacco and Philip Morris claims for years that these cigarettes have 90 percent fewer toxins. But the study contradicts the claim of these harmless smokeless cigarettes.
Researchers have discovered that the smoke coming from IQOS contains 84 percent nicotine. The finding suggests that smokeless cigarettes have more chemicals associated with cancer, in which the concentration is much higher than traditional ones.
Swiss researchers said that the cancer-causing chemicals found in IQOs are polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and volatile organic compounds. All of these are said to have no "safe minimum limit."
Smoking IQOS smokeless cigarette is not banned indoors as Philip Morris claims its harmless effects on health. However, researchers say that IQOS should be banned indoors just like ordinary cigarettes. Based on the finding, using smokeless cigarettes, according to researchers, should also be banned in public places since IQOS could harm both people around the user, as well as the user.
Banning IQOS in public places could protect bystanders from inhaling cancer-causing smokes, and researchers claim that the chemicals of smokeless cigarettes contribute to the high mortality rate among smokers.
However, some also suggest that further studies are needed to deny or confirm the finding of the latest study regarding the harmful effect of IQOS on human health, and if it contains more cancer-causing chemicals than ordinary cigarettes.
