Yondu, fresh from appearing in the blockbuster movie, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2", now joins the roster of the hit mobile game, "Marvel's Contest of Champions". Marvel.com interviewed Michael Rooker, the actor who played Yondu in the popular "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie franchise.
The two movies in the franchise introduced the character Yondu, already familiar to comic book fans, to a wider audience. The character had pivotal roles in both films with a bigger presence in the second film. In the movies, Yondu was the person who kidnapped and then raised Peter Quill, who would go on to become Star-Lord, the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Michael Rooker played Yondu in both films. Rooker is a veteran of television and movies, having acted in popular titles such as "The Walking Dead" and "Cliffhanger" with Sylvester Stallone.
"Marvel's Contest of Champions" is a free-to-play mobile fighting game developed and published by mobile game company Kabam. The game is available on iOS and Android devices.
In the game, a player will have access to a limited number of characters that can be increased as they progress through the game. Game characters are then made to fight in an arena with the player controlling one character. As they progress through the game, players can increase the level of their characters.
Marvel and Kabam announced that Yondu would be joining the roster of characters available for players to unlock. To mark the occasion, Marvel.com interviewed Rooker as well as well as Kabam Character Designer Simon Cameron.
The actor comments on the move set of the Yondu game character, sounding like an experienced player. He says that the "Guardians of the Galaxy" character doesn't need to be hands-on in dealing with a bunch of enemies.
Yondu can just whistle and let his arrow do the job. He can also call for an airstrike from his crew when he is done with hand-to-hand combat. His Ravager brawling skills are shown in his punches and kicks when he does fight.
Rooker also kept mentioning that the Yondu game character looks handsome and was a reflection of himself. He said that the developers of the game did a great job of capturing the essence of Yondu except that he was still more handsome than the character in "Marvel's Contest of Champions".
