New details about the much-rumored Microsoft Surface Phone leaked online. The leak seems to be unclear, but it gives some interesting information on the upcoming device.
The leak was seen in a video description on the official account of Microsoft on Bilibili, a Chinese video service similar to YouTube. Based on the translation, according to Phone Arena, the device will be called Surface Mobile instead of Surface Phone.
The post was now deleted since it seems to have been accidentally published. But, the video was translated into English through Google Translate, MSPowerUser reported.
Here are some of the details mentioned in the leak:
First, the Surface Mobile will likely use Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC processors. Qualcomm has been used by several manufacturers as mobile processors and has already worked with Microsoft to have Windows 10 to ARM-based devices, which are believed to be available later this year.
Another thing on the leaked description is the Continuum, a feature for Windows 10 Mobile that allows a smartphone to work like a desktop computer using Display Doc - akin to Samsung's DeX Station of the Galaxy S8. However, Continuum was said to be a part of new "onto table" projection feature.
Prior to the leak, Surface Mobile has been speculated to arrive with a built-in mini projector, so Continuum feature will be one of the advantages of the device as there is no need for a dock and a display. The leak says an 185-degree angle, meaning the device will likely prop up on base or stand to use the projector feature.
The Surface Mobile device may also have its own Surface Pen, based on the information mentioned in the leak. In the translated version of the description, the device will probably be equipped its own pen, referring to Surface Pen. Furthermore, Surface Pen will have a shortcut to launch OneNote.
There's no additional information added on what the new Surface Phone will really look like, though the latest patent of Microsoft reveals that they are experimenting with some sort of dual-display foldable phone. Also, Surface Slavonia and Surface Peking are being mentioned, some speculated that these two are codenames for different devices.
