Many of the gaming enthusiasts had seemed to move on from "DayZ," but Bohemia Interactive AS has warned gamers that hackers have infiltrated and compromised hundreds of its emails, usernames and passwords.
Bohemia, according to Attack of the Fanboy, said that a security incident had happened on its forums.dayzgame.com just recently, as written in emails to users through Reddit. As per investigation, all accounts and passwords from their forums were accessed and downloaded by hackers.
They continued that though passwords were not stored in plain text, it is highly suggested that if a user has used the same password in other accounts, they may need to alter it immediately to ensure security of all applicable websites and services.
The hack may seem to have appeared over a week ago, and the company is trying to reach all its users to alter the compromised system.
Bohemia said that they are truly sorry for such inconvenience, and they wish to share one major change planned to correct similar risks in the future. They said they will need to replace the IPBoards login system with Bohemia account in the next couple of weeks. Bohemia Account is a separate customized service currently used by its forums and store. In this way, it will provide better security and eliminate similar incidents such as the hacking.
"DayZ" was in the first place launched in 2009 as a mod for "Arma II," a military sim game. Avid gamers were really excited when a full standalone game was released few years later. Today, the interest of this game is not as much as what it was once before. "DayZ" had stuck in the alpha testing phase, even if it were released on Steam Early Access over a couple of years ago, Silicon Angle reported.
Bohemia continues that the full release of the game will finally be out anytime 2016, but as for now, no official release date has been provided.
