Google Glass was launched in 2013 and since then fans have been waiting for the next version of the wearable headset. A device that includes new features seems to match up with the Alphabet company's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) December patent filing and showed up on a pawn shop's eBay page. The smart glasses appear with a basic title referring to the black frame, and have an online auction price tag over $5,000.
Google's patent application has various new features not included in the original Glass. They include a folding hinge, outward-facing LED light, and new charging interface, according to Ars Technica.
In addition, the Google goggles also include the word "GLASS" printed in all caps on the inside of the plastic hinge. The letter "A" appears at an angle.
Based on the pawnbroker's listing the Google Glass unit is only "gently" used, according to CNET. Meanwhile, the eyeglasses frame is described as black.
Neither Google nor its umbrella company Alphabet has confirmed that the eBay post includes a new version of Glass. Past reports have referred to Google Glass 2 as "Enterprise Edition" and "Project Aura."
In fact, the smart glasses on eBay look somewhat like the Enterprise Edition. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported the wearable was being given to workers in various industries including health care.
Google's last released model known as Explorer Edition could not be resold legally. Thus, the images of the new Google product would probably break many rules since the wearable device has not been officially launched.
The pawn shop that listed the Google Glass unit has a 99.9 percent positive rating for the online auction site. However, there are still many unanswered questions including how the pawnbroker got a pair of the high-tech eyewear worn by "Glassholes."
In related news Google is reportedly developing a virtual reality headset to follow-up its Google Cardboard. It will include better sensors and lenses, and be housed in a plastic casing.
Google Cardboard was released in 2014, and has a $20 price tag. The new VR device would help the tech giant to compete better with Samsung's Gear VR, HTC Vive, and Facebook's Oculus Rift.
