BlackBerry Priv is getting its security update. The Canadian-based smartphone maker has previously announced that they will be releasing an update come January. Reportedly, several users have already received them.
The BlackBerry Priv started receiving security update in Jan. 4, Monday. For those who have not yet received a notification, it may happen in the next week's batch. This is the claim of Michael Clewley a BlackBerry geek, who tweeted "The monthly security patch release is now posted (AAD250). ShopBB and some carriers, more carriers next week."
BlackBerry Priv security update is said to be lacking a changelog, making it hard to know exactly what AAD250 brings into the phone. Priv users can check the update manually if it is already available by going to Settings> About Phone> Software update. Just be sure that the phone is about 70% charged and connected to a stable Wifi internet connection.
Meanwhile, Blackberry Priv is to be made available to three major United States carriers and three more countries, Blackberry announced. Since its initial release, the Priv is an exclusive AT&T offer. However, T-Mobile will now sell the handset starting Jan. 26. On Jan. 6, Wednesday during the CES, Blackberry also confirmed that Sprint and Verizon will also be carrying their first-ever Android smartphone.
Aside from the expansion in US availability, the company has also revealed that the device now available in Spain, Italy, and The Netherlands through Blackberry's official website in the respective countries.
BlackBerry, formerly known as Research In Motion, released Oriv, its first Android phone in 2015. The old BlackBerry phones carried their own operating system, but discontinued using them after the company suffered financial difficulties in the recent years.
The BlackBerry Priv is a 5.4-inch AMOLED display smartphone that offers a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440. Under its hood is a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC that clocks at 1.8 GHz and 1.44 GHz. It also comes with a 3GB of RAM. Storage is pegged at 32GB and carries an 18-megapixel rear facing camera and a 2 MP front facing one, Android Headlines reported.
The BlackBerry is known for its physical keyboard on almost all its previous phones and that is what exactly they did with the Priv. The smartphone comes with a sliding physical QWERTY keyboard.
